During the pandemic restrictions I have been working with the flute technician and instrument restorer, Arthur Haswell. The opportunity to experiment and play on Rudall Carte instruments (which Arthur specialises in restoring) has been a real inspiration, as well as an insight as to the difference between handmade and modern manufactured instruments. The fruits of our collaboration will appear in my Telemann recordings, soon to be released on Ulysses Arts. I now play almost exclusively on these instruments.
In the meantime, his website is a brilliant source of information about the makers of these instruments, as well as some fine examples of Arthur’s projects and headjoints.
